Interview Modern Master March 26th

- Please introduce yourself
Hi, my name is Felix/dschidi (GD). I'm from Germany and i'm playing a lot of Magic. On Cockatrice for 4 years, on Magic-League for 1 year now.
In real life i dont have that much time to play, but when i have it, i love to play at FNM or MKM-series. On M-L i'm a level 1 Judge and part of the team "The Hive".

- Which deck did you choose and why?

Krark-Clan Ironworks

I chose to play a Krark-Clan-Ironworks(KCI)/Thoptersword combo deck.
The first time i saw a version of KCI-combo with Scrap Trawler was in a ML-Trial a few weeks ago, played by ModernMax.
I was very impressed of the deck and i gave it a shot. Its a ton of fun to play (with, not against) and have some sweet synergies.
From there i was going to do some changes. The biggest one was of course adding the Thoptersword combo. which was perfect, cause it makes the deck less all-in on KCI
while also providing another sacrifice outlet for the cantrip artifacts. And both pieces can be sacrificed during the KCI Combo Turn, which make them solid plays even without the other piece.
But most games i won with the obvious synergy between the two "combo-routes". When i have KCI and ThopterSword on field i gain infinite life, thopters and colorless mana. Add a Trawler and we have often the infinite draw too.
Then finishing with Emrakul or Ballista. Basically i chose the deck cause i can have fun with it and it rewards skill and correct sequencing.

- What are some matchups you expected today and how did you think you would fair against them?
I expected a lot of Deaths Shadow, EldraTron and blue based Control, like Grixis or Jeskai.
Jund Deathshadow is a really bad matchup, but for the rest i gave myself good chances. Fortunately i didnt faced Death Shadow at all.

- Were there any matchups you felt were negative? And did you prepare for the mirrormatch?
Deaths Shadow, Infect, Sun+Moon. Didnt face them, luckily. I didn't expect any mirrormatches which was correct :)

- How did you prepare for the master?
As always, playing Minis and Trials on ML and some main-server testing vs random guys (But this deck animate a lot of people to scoop early). And always develop/adjust the deck a bit.

- Anything else you would like to say about the format, your deck, the tournament or any other shoutouts?
Modern is my favourite format, cause we have a great diversity there and still there is always a bit room for brewing and Rogue Decks. Im sure everyone can find a modern deck that he likes to play.
My Deck was great... today... but honestly there was some luck involved. I didnt faced any of the "game-over-hatecards" like Stony Silence or Rest in Peace. also i had very few mulligans and drew very well.
The Tournament was nice. It was my 4th Master-Final. And after loosing 3x i finally took the title. Im really happy right now.
Shoutouts to Modernmax for infecting me with the idea. Big shout to DerFlippi for hosting, judging and all the other stuff he is doing. To my team "The Hive". To the "Victorious Clambassadors" for being really serious Team-competitors and beating us  this phase.
