so i know the other post got destroyed with people all about the disruption and stuff but ive built a deck thats halfway to being good. It goes off consistently turn 4...and has won on turn 3...and has the slight possibility of winning turn 2

// Deck file for Magic Workstation (http://www.magicworkstation.com)

// Lands
3 [10E] Karplusan Forest
4 [LRW] Vivid Grove
3 [10E] Llanowar Wastes
1 [SHM] Reflecting Pool
3 [SHM] Graven Cairns
3 [SHM] Fire-Lit Thicket
4 [TSB] Gemstone Mine

// Creatures
4 [SHM] Devoted Druid
4 [EVE] Quillspike
4 [10E] Birds of Paradise
4 [PLC] Simian Spirit Guide

// Spells
4 [FUT] Summoner's Pact
4 [FUT] Pact of Negation
4 [CS] Rite of Flame
3 [SHM] Manamorphose
4 [TSB] Avoid Fate
4 [SHM] Rite of Consumption

The turn 2 is kind of cool...

turn 1 : land, remove simian spirit guide, play devoted druid
turn 2 : land, play right of flame, play quill spike (leave one land untapped) , pump quill spike, use devoted to add one to mana pool and use other land to play rite of consumption.

BOOM

most popular removal spells in the format? terror, nameless inversion, and (to a lesser extent) slaughter pact.

i'm sure none of these could be played turn 2...

You need one of 4 spells out of 60 cards PLUS another one of 4 spells out of 60 cards.

I see that as a bigger problem than removal.

No, you respond to the 2nd ability of devoted druid by terroring it.

this is a prime example of how not to go about building around this flimsy combo.

This deck wants thoughtseize to pull the removal out of opponents hand.

The problem i see with this combo is that you can't surprise your opponents. They just have to wait for you to play druid - and then kill it on their turn. They do not even need to keep mana open!

I think there are 2 solutions:
1.) protect your druid with:
. a) hand destruction as thoughtseize etc.
. b) heavy use of countermagic
. c) giving him shroud (whispersilk cloak would fit perfectly here - first use it to protect druid, then use it to make the quillspike unblockable)

2.) Surprise em!
. a) use teferi to flash in druid at end of turn!
. b) use makeshift mannequin at end of turn!
. c) give the druid haste! (maybe with Crimson Wisps?)

As an conclusion i think the best deck for the combo is either a g/b midrange deck (not really relying on the combo) or a g/U/b counter deck with teferi (which is my favorite). u could play mystical teachings to fetch all combo peaces (with green pact) and mercy killing EOT --> endless tokens.
seems pretty cool to me...

I would suggest making a Doran deck and simply having 4 Druids and 4 Quillspikes in the deck. Don't rely on the combo, but if it comes up it's gravy. You can also use Kitchen Finks, which combo nicely with the the Quillspikes as well...

Of course, now that the deck is a Doran deck with White, simply at 2 or 3 Reveillarks, which could bring back both the quill AND the druid, or simply bring back a Doran or something.... whatever. Saffi would fit nicely to protect the combo or the cause Rev shenanigans. Perhaps a Primal Command or 2 as well.

This seems like the best way to make the deck. And make the the deck as aggroish as possible. It will more resemble the BGW Project X decks of Rav block, but the aggro kill will be much faster with Doran instead of Ghost Councils.
