Wild Nacatl
G
1/1
Creature - Cat Warrior
Wild Nacatl gets +1/+1 as long as you control a Plains.
Wild Nacatl gets +1/+1 as long as you control a Mountain.
This is an easy addition to 5c Zoo decks in extended right? |

| On par or slightly better than ape? In Extended Zoo with Fetch- and Shocklands, this is a 3/3 on turn 2 almost every time. |

Yea the only downside I can see, and its a small one at that, if you play kird ape turn 1 off of stomping grounds you get a 2/3. But if you play a wild nactle turn 1 off of stomping grounds you get a 2/2. Still great though. |

| The bonus of having it 3/3 next turn is huge though, that one extra power can do a whole lot. |

But that one less toughness also has just as much drawbacks. It dies to a turn 1 shock/tarfire etc. |

| you just play both. and play whichever one is better against what your opponent is playing is the one you play first. |

it's obviously amazing. and it's only "downside" is shared by the only other card competing for that slot (isamaru - also a 2/2)
er, unless someone wants to run a slightly slower version that plays figure of destiny....that's a whole other deck tho i think.
EDIT: i think the real question is weather to run the new 5/4 for 3 or doran.
doran is legendary, but doesn't really die to the same removal that kills the 5/4. also it requires black mana, but that shouldn't be a probelm really....especially if we're talking about playing dark confidant too...
anyone? |

You play both. Grim Lavamancer left, and you have less reason to MD Mogg Fanatic because Dredge is all but dead. Now for your 14-16 1-drops, you have Figure of Destiny, Wild Nacatl, Kird Ape and the "lol weakest link" Isamaru.
As for the WRG 5/4 vs. Doran, you play the 5/4 guy even though it seems counterintuitive. Here's why
1.) BWG is actually kind of hard for the mana base. You typically go get Stomping Ground and Godless Shrine if at all possible. Think about the cards you want to play: Gaddock Teeg (or maybe ye olde outdated Watchwolf, but prob not) wants G and W separate, Figure of Destiny wants all lands to produce R or W, and you want to be able to cast Dark Confidant on turn 2. To get the 3rd element for Doran, you will probably have to get another shockland and send yourself to 11 (maybe 12 if you are lucky). However, most lists have 1 Mountain to fetch in a pinch, and RWG is easier to play this way. It's possible if you want to play Flame Javelin that you could play all R/x dual lands, but this obviously doesn't help Doran's case. However, more red is always better; even with red mana sinkers like Lavamancer gone you still may want to play cards like Molten Rain. Stomping Ground and Godless Shrine are the best way to cover all your bases with just 2 lands and Woolly Thoctar plays to that too.
2.) Doran being black is irrelevant, at least for this year. People don't play Shriekmaw and Terror in Extended. They play Putrefy and Smother. Once Smother is gone, it will be another story, but Smother is the best answer to Tarmogoyf and killing Doran or this other guy is icing on the cake. And obviously Putrefy is the same story, along with Mortify which may see play since Vindicate is gone.
3.) The 5 toughness is obviously better, but once you are up to 4 people will be trying to Smother/Putrefy your guy, or Wrath it, not burn it. Furthermore, Doran screws with Dark Confidant and whatever other X/1's you use, although he admittedly helps Kird Ape.
I say Woolly Thoctar is better primarily on mana base considerations. |

| Another point for the thoctar is that he is a lot harder to take over with vedalken shackles. Seeing how Doran has 0 power they can take him right away, but they need 5 islands for this guy. |
