Cube Sealed

Many of you have noticed the numerous sealed mini tests going on before. This was because we were testing a new Cube set for magic-league. Yes, we are now able to offer limited Cube Sealed Minis.

What is a "Cube"?

A Cube is basically a compilation set of some of the most powerful cards in the game. Imagine sitting down for a sealed game and opening your pool. Your first pack contains: Wrath of God, Library of Alexandria, Mindslaver, Nevinyrral’s Disk, Rancor, Akroma, Angel of Wrath etc. All six of your packs, in fact, have fifteen cards of a very high power level. This is the nature of Cube. The goal is to create a powerful, dynamic limited environment where no card is considered 'bad' or 'useless'.

When will this Cube be updated

Whenever a new set comes out, the entire Cube will be reevaluated and cards that people aren't playing will be removed and cards players might use will be put in instead. In addition, cards from the new set that hold the power level Cube demands will be placed into the Cube as well, over cards that are not played.

Special thanks go out to Weedmonkey, Gerrardfo, Shyft, and Xishem for making this project possible.

So where can I see the most current incarnation of this cube? Is there a card list?

by DrekheaD on 2009-08-24 01:46 EST

Cube was definitely my favorite, followed by Cube Zero. I have yet to watch Hypercube...

by Laplie on 2009-08-24 12:38 EST

hypercube was terrible

by Duodax on 2009-08-24 12:44 EST

format is awful --- jitte and ravages of war are to good.

by neosystems on 2009-08-24 14:10 EST

Yeah, it's too bad there are no counterspells and artifact destruction ...oh wait. It's really a snap judgment when the 'format' has been around for less than 24 hours and without knowing any of the nuances at all someone proclaims it terrible. You should play some more, build your decks better, and then see. These aren't a set of random cards we thought would be good. It's based off of a well-tested cube, so balance does exist. You're just ignoring the tools in your card pool to create it.

Bravo. I'm looking forward to this.

by Duodax on 2009-08-24 17:22 EST

Ravages just end the game if the owner has got a ridiculous fast deck (is goyf in the cube btw?) (you can´t handle the creatures AND have counter mana open PLUS you have to play blue) and Jitte does a unreachable advantage when getting counters.

by Malakai97 on 2009-08-24 17:25 EST

There are so many powerful cards that those cards should have less of an impact than they would have had in their own block formats. I know I'd be much more afraid of jitte in Kamigawa Block sealed than I would in cube sealed.

by cmc on 2009-08-24 22:02 EST

Sylvan Library is sooo ridic.

by rast2 on 2009-08-24 23:11 EST

Ravages is unfun. There's a reason geddon costs 7 mana these days, when its even printed at all. Maybe cube should be limited (get it?) to cards that are actually in extended.

Jitte, well.. at least you can keep removing his creatures in response. Hopefully there are a lot of good artifact removal creatures in the cube.

by neosystems on 2009-08-24 23:25 EST

mkay, well I'll keep in mind scrutinizing Ravages of War and Armageddon for the next cube update.

by Avata on 2009-08-25 02:35 EST

I wouldn't worry about it too much... the whole point of the cube is powerful cards, and no matter what cards you put in, there will always be a few people that complain about specific cards.

This is the internetz, after all.

I played in one yesterday and i must say it's a very cool concept! I won the tournament (with a bye in the final) and all the matches were real cool and quite close. Great work guys.

by rentintin3 on 2009-08-25 11:26 EST

Ld of anykind is at a + in any cube. I don't here people complain in sealed trials that they got blown out by double baneslayer or garruk + ball in the forums all the time? Why is that? ITS cuz people get good sealed decks. There are deff arch types in this sealed though like RB ld. So maybe someone should start a post or make everyone post there list like t2 afterwards so we can watch the trends

Current Cube list here: http://www.magic-league.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=12334

by Enrra on 2009-08-26 02:47 EST

Thanks for the list that's exactly what I was looking for.

by Trotsky1 on 2009-08-26 04:50 EST

Damn almost makes me want to start playing ml again.

by rast2 on 2009-08-26 23:51 EST

Rishadan port was a horrible idea. yes, lets give players a way to color/mana screw their opponents in limited.

by neosystems on 2009-08-27 12:18 EST

Do you just post here about X card whenever you lose to it...?

by rast2 on 2009-08-27 13:26 EST

I've played both with and against the geddons deck. I've never faced port, but have used it myself to colorscrew my opponent.

Your comment was stupid anyway -- obviously I'm most likely to perceive a problem with a cube card after playing with/against it. Hey, why don't you put Balance in the cube, and then every time someone loses to it you can call him a whiner.

by neosystems on 2009-08-27 16:02 EST

It was more me wondering if you -actually- had a problem with a card, or had just suffered a bad beat and wanted to whine about it to someone. Evidently, it was both.

Can anyone tell me the steps for building a cube sealed deck for mws?
