Update for OPT betatest

by nico on 2008-10-19 16:50 EST
Hello all,

As most of you know, we are actively supporting the development of a new online play application call OPT, wich is short for Online PlayTable. Currently there is a magic module only but people will be able to add modules for other games.
A new version of OPT has been released, and here are some of the features in this version:

rejoin your last game when you get disconnected / leave by accident, this works for both draft and regular play

opt replays, you can load a replay file to watch the game in full over again. The files are stored on the server, so only judges are able to distribute them to the public.

graphics: Added some alpha channel options so you can make semi-transparent objects to create a very cool theme.. This alpha channel setting (when used) will take up a LOT of cpu power though, recommended 2Ghz+ dualcore

mythic rares are supported when making a draft table or sealed deck, so no more excess of sarkan vol

The newest client can be found Here
The server also has been upgraded to support the features, so you will not be able to connect with older versions of the opt client

Nice nico!

I need to point out that OPT is mainly for the (upper) mainstream computer.
Looking at the slowest cpu you can buy nowadays, the minimum requirements of 1Ghz and 512MB ram aren't that high, but some of you wont be able to meet these standards.
Therefor I will define a "fast" theme you can use on slow machines like 450Mhz and the likes.

Also, a screen resolution of 1024x768 minimum is needed to have a proper layout of the objects, the game is designed for 1280x1024, which is pretty standard nowadays.

Graphics are very strange. The cards (and just about everything else) look like fractal repeats of the object edges.

miseiler, can you post a screenshot in the OPT Beta forum?

OPT needs directx 9.0 to run.

by miseiler on 2008-10-21 09:20 EST

It does? That would explain it, then. I'm trying to run it from windows in VirtualBox, since the installer crashes in wine.

by Jorbes on 2008-10-21 09:59 EST

If you prefer, I can provide a simple zip file to "install" it.
OPT does not write to the registry and can be run from anywhere, even usb drive.

Well, I gave it a shot, but wine just gives a black screen and a menubar, even with DX9 installed. Too bad.

Windows XP > Linux

What distribution are you running?

by miseiler on 2008-10-22 19:56 EST

I'll add the Masters Edition 1 & 2 cards in the next patch, as well as the
Magic Online Promo Cards

Can OPT be run in Ubuntu?

by weehood on 2008-11-08 14:49 EST

Awesome!!!

there's no one ever connected tho :(

im likin the program so far. up till now i've been a strong MWS supporter (probably still will be) but i'm very interested to test the 2HG, multiplayer, and draft capabilities.

is there any way to do a solitaire mode draft? seems like you need 2-8 people to test it.

anyway, great work guys, and keep us posted on any updates. thanks

EDIT: the new version 0.99a is out at onlineplaytable.com

by Hessan on 2008-11-22 09:23 EST

Is OPT the same as the GO program i.e. has the GO program been renamed to OPT

by weehood on 2008-11-24 20:38 EST

i believe you are correct.
