AnotherElf on 2007-04-25 17:46 EST so does that means that if now i'm the first to coment some article or something with an interesting one and i wrote 1st in the end i will get banned?
by
Wiley on 2007-04-25 17:47 EST I agree with this on principle although I don't agree with the ban length, I sometimes wonder if the admins here have any notion of time... a week is a long time for something small like that.
I suppose it'll work as a deterrent, which I can buy, but it still perplexes me how you would have banned me if I started this post with "1st"; how does it detract from the constructive nature of it?

YES. You will be banned from commenting for a week. Writing the first post on a thread is not an accomplishment and should not be celebrated.
by
Wiley on 2007-04-25 17:50 EST But you fail to explain why it should be banned..
by
Jacois on 2007-04-25 17:51 EST Well Rasta, I'm impressed with how quickly you found the loophole and wrote "1st" in the middle of your comment. That's pretty slick.
I think my comment is funny, therefore not a waste of space. Am I right?
by
Malhavoc on 2007-04-25 18:16 EST It will be a LONG way to bring the discussions in our forum to a decent level, but this is a nice step, and obviously a needed one.

Wiley on 2007-04-25 18:52 EST I understand the plight of many of the judges here but you'd be a lot more respected (and people would feel a lot more inclined to listen to you, and not post "lol penis" just to defy you) if you would actually qualify what you say. I really don't think anyone saying "1st" "2nd" "lolpenis" etc has ever truly detracted from a discussion except ironically now, when it's bannable, and causes tangential discussions to occur from its banning moreso than the profanity/stupidity of the post itself.
In other words, the way you handle critical dissent is only trivializing your cause; people feel less inclined to take it seriously when you propose that people be banned for 168 hours just because they said something immature..

by
Laplie on 2007-04-25 19:08 EST Wiley, I explained the reason for the policy in the first 2 paragraphs of the news post. Certain comments add nothing and take up space. Also, it makes magic-league look "like a joke" as some people would put it.
A week ban is not a long time. Especially since its just a ban from posting comments in news posts but not a ban from chat or anything else.
by
Wiley on 2007-04-25 19:37 EST edit: actually this was lame, disregard this

NahHolmes on 2007-04-25 20:18 EST I'm all for anything that tries to remove the idiot-factor from this site.
by
Drizzs on 2007-04-25 20:40 EST Finally its about time cause i hate reading threw comments looking for people who actually have something to say and end up reading a conversation between 2 players.. come on guys lets just stick to the topic!! Good stuff Laplie!

by
AnotherElf on 2007-04-26 02:44 EST Jabocis why don't u die? i wrote first not because i want to but only because i was reading this and the question came to my mind
by
Meatwarz on 2007-04-26 07:30 EST You'd better do something really important for the league site/system, not some useless bans for nothing -.-
by
NahHolmes on 2007-04-26 11:08 EST Dear Wiley,
Everything you type is a waste, you know less then nothing about deckbuilding which is obvious from basically every comment you have ever posted. Noone takes you seriously, I really hope you are trolling otherwise you are a running joke for being so wrong so often. Also it is the absolute opposite of irony that you are protesting for the right to say stupid things on these comments.
Signed, M-L
by
coolcreep on 2007-04-26 11:56 EST It seems silly to ban someone for saying "1st" THEN posting insightful feedback. Are the collective fingers of the ML community so fat that they cannot scroll down another centimeter to get past the totally harmless "1st" some people choose to put at the start of their posts? And I am worried that comments like "lolbad" will be banned as well, which is no good at all. Sometimes I just don't feel like posting a laundry list of reasons that have all been posted about 3x before, so I just say something like "lolbad" to tell the creator that his deck sucks quickly and consisely. I do think having to scroll down a page to get past "1st"2nd" 3st" "4st" etc. is annoying and things like that should be punished, but I think this rule overshoots the mark by a long shot.
by
NahHolmes on 2007-04-26 15:03 EST I think they are just talking about the ones who just post 1st, 2nd, lol penis and such. Since the point is to make the site look more legit I don't think if you wrote 1st, then had a detailed breakdown on what you thought of the decks that they would ban you.
by
Revik on 2007-04-26 16:37 EST 27th?
lol, Moreso wondering if that constitutes a ban. Please dont ban me if it does. (Laplie R0xx)

Good reading skills there (hint: check the announcement, you suck-up)
As for your last comment, well... calling me the running joke is funny in itself because I'm respected and loved by everyone and the community as a whole clearly wants my very fine ass
by
NahHolmes on 2007-04-26 21:53 EST Good point but seriously you are a joke. Also how would anything I said make me a suck-up and to whom I wonder?
by
Ironicus on 2007-04-28 12:27 EST Finaly!!! The thing with first, second and blablabla was soo stupid. I think that it will ehlp the image of the league too
by
Wiley on 2007-04-28 22:41 EST If we wanted to help the league's image we could always do away with the legacy that this place carries of obnoxious, ho-hum players and an intolerant and blatantly fascist administration.
When people say that Magic-league is a joke I totally understand. Just because it's free monetarily doesn't mean it's truly "free" in every respect...
by
warwizard87 on 2007-04-29 19:32 EST i would like out that i agree with the whole "no usless posts" thing but just beocuse someone says "1st" then posts something relevant i feel that shoudl not be a ban. Though the "lol penis" is one of the top things i note as retarded here.
by
