I agree with this on principle although I don't agree with the ban length, I sometimes wonder if the admins here have any notion of time... a week is a long time for something small like that.

I suppose it'll work as a deterrent, which I can buy, but it still perplexes me how you would have banned me if I started this post with "1st"; how does it detract from the constructive nature of it?

YES. You will be banned from commenting for a week. Writing the first post on a thread is not an accomplishment and should not be celebrated.

I understand the plight of many of the judges here but you'd be a lot more respected (and people would feel a lot more inclined to listen to you, and not post "lol penis" just to defy you) if you would actually qualify what you say. I really don't think anyone saying "1st" "2nd" "lolpenis" etc has ever truly detracted from a discussion except ironically now, when it's bannable, and causes tangential discussions to occur from its banning moreso than the profanity/stupidity of the post itself.

In other words, the way you handle critical dissent is only trivializing your cause; people feel less inclined to take it seriously when you propose that people be banned for 168 hours just because they said something immature..

Wiley, I explained the reason for the policy in the first 2 paragraphs of the news post. Certain comments add nothing and take up space. Also, it makes magic-league look "like a joke" as some people would put it.

A week ban is not a long time. Especially since its just a ban from posting comments in news posts but not a ban from chat or anything else.

Everything you type is a waste, you know less then nothing about deckbuilding which is obvious from basically every comment you have ever posted. Noone takes you seriously, I really hope you are trolling otherwise you are a running joke for being so wrong so often. Also it is the absolute opposite of irony that you are protesting for the right to say stupid things on these comments.

It seems silly to ban someone for saying "1st" THEN posting insightful feedback. Are the collective fingers of the ML community so fat that they cannot scroll down another centimeter to get past the totally harmless "1st" some people choose to put at the start of their posts? And I am worried that comments like "lolbad" will be banned as well, which is no good at all. Sometimes I just don't feel like posting a laundry list of reasons that have all been posted about 3x before, so I just say something like "lolbad" to tell the creator that his deck sucks quickly and consisely. I do think having to scroll down a page to get past "1st"2nd" 3st" "4st" etc. is annoying and things like that should be punished, but I think this rule overshoots the mark by a long shot.

I think they are just talking about the ones who just post 1st, 2nd, lol penis and such. Since the point is to make the site look more legit I don't think if you wrote 1st, then had a detailed breakdown on what you thought of the decks that they would ban you.
