Important Policy Announcement

by Gerrardfo on 2007-04-13 18:33 EST
Recently we've had some issues with players evading channel bans and/or site bans. To ensure that bans are actually enforced and that you are not playing against a banned player, we recommend that when you PM your opponent for each match, do the following:
1. Check to make sure they're in the appropriate channel for the tournament.
2. If s/he not in the channel, ask that user to join the channel.
3. If the user cannot join the channel or is on the banned ip list, contact your TC or report it to #judges4you immediately.

Please note that if a ban player is caught evading, their ban length will be increased and any match in which they were participating will be forfeited. Also, it is expected that you PM a user upon joining a tournament; if they are not in channel, check to see if you can /query or /msg them on IRC anyway to see if they're online.

by IAmSoDamSian on 2007-04-14 00:45 EST

Where do i check who is banned?

by SOAD on 2007-04-14 01:36 EST

double click on the screen where the text apears. it pop a window showing the IP's of baned players:

e.g.: ~1234ABC@dudes.com

by DS_McWerp on 2007-04-14 03:09 EST

Usually it pops up with either Wiley's or Red's ip. But not always :P.

Of course Gfo had to go through the trouble to mention the "recent problems" of ban evasion... like me who didn't even know he was ban evading, explained it with brilliant arguments, and was still banned without even a refutation or a response from Nico. Incredible.

To be more specific, I changed my name from "wiley" to something like "wiloy" which I do very often. Later I tried to see if I was unbanned from #magic-league yet, and it let me in because the judge who unjustly banned me I guess forgot to ban my IP too. I had no idea I was "ban evading" and in fact I wasn't, because ban evasion implies some degree of sneakiness, I obviously wasn't trying to be surreptitious if I went into the room with an extremely similar name and started talking out in the open almost right away... also it isn't ban evasion if I don't know when my ban would be up (something Flippi failed to explain even though I PMed him countless times) considering I wouldn't even know if I was evading the ban. What if I changed my name to "Wiley|brb" and tried to see if I was unbanned later? See there's absolutely no logic, the bannings that happen here are arbitrary I'm sorry...

Holy shit I totally agree with Wiley, such an excelent post, it explains an apparently "normal" situation here on ml where justice is nonexistant.

I'll bring to topic my recent ban (it was until today though) I'm not gonna whine about it here but it has something to do with the topic. I was banned for x reason and after y time I joined ml (since it's in my autojoin channel list) and I wasn't akicked. So I thought "Holy jesus, Nico actually took the time to read my 60 pages email with 60 quotes of judge abuse behavior and he's on my side!", I was having an orgasm as I jumped from side to side of my room, but after 20 seconds I get msgs from judges telling me to stop evading my ban. After 40 seconds I get akicked again with a longer ban time. I started yelling at random iliterate people with &, @ and %'s in their nicks so after a long discussion I got the old ban time.

I hope these random "unbannings" are related to errors in the server, or just big lag time because otherwise, you can't blame someone for "evading" a ban when you simply don't know how to ban someone's ip.

Anyway I hope you all choke.

I tottaly agree with wiley and r4nd0m and i said xy time how bad and stupid are judges on ML, i dont know in what part are you worst, in mtg judging(i will not even say what kind of retarded questions judge ask one another, that even biggeners know) or in part with evading bans, because you unban some1, then he join, then you give him longer ban. its rly rofl, and this place dont have future, if something about judges change, its quite shame, and actualy i dont give so much fuck about it, but still its nice to have some place where people can play online mtg for free, but sometimes i wonder is it actualy free, because price that people pay, is dealing with bad judges(most of them are frustarted mtg players that sucks, and just want to have some kind of power(like you beat me, i ban you)

And shoud i even mention that most of judges that are judges here, are only judges for selfish reasons, aka so they can make minis for themselves, only real judges are geeks and people without life like Pekken and Flippi, its kind of people that love mtg, but cant play it because they are painfuly bad, so only way for them to be in touch with mtg are to be judges, because it was too humiliating to them when they played and lose all the time.
I am glad that some1 finaly started to talk about this, because stupidity of certain judges cant be measured, and it really need to stop, if you want this place to continue evolving.
So much for now, i hope more people will comment this topic.

Btw, r4nd0m is sexy.

by R4nd0m on 2007-04-17 09:39 EST

That means we're doing it tonight, doesn't it?
Ah..

by Vlada on 2007-04-17 09:40 EST

obv

by Wiley on 2007-04-17 17:37 EST

yeah I forgot to mention that I was banned for reason y, an amount of times equal to the integral of arcsin (x^2). Still I think that was fairly obvious.

by Atobe on 2007-04-17 21:51 EST

Look the judges are sick of your detrimental behavior and are sick of giving you second (more like a dozen) chances. I for one cannot nor will not blame them for screwing with you, you clearly deserve it.

Nor do I see the problem with making minis for yourself. One of the reasons to become a judge is to provide minis for the league. As a judge you are a player of the league, so obviously you'd be entitled to make and join a mini for yourself.

I usually loathe judges, but when it comes to some of you I am one for slapping a few more hours onto your ban 'unintentionally'.

PS - Stop whining you canadian.

by Vlada on 2007-04-17 21:54 EST

LOL :)

by R4nd0m on 2007-04-18 09:41 EST

Except you like men so everything you said is torn apart by this fact.

I have logs

<Atobe> I like men.

Grow some balls.

by Atobe on 2007-04-18 11:59 EST

Sorry random and wiley, I owe you guys an apology. Last night I was banned for "mimicing (you forgot the k) and impostering other ops". The only thing is I didn't copy a single op's name (otherwise I would have been ghosted/forced to ID). I merely mimicked ops of the past who's nicks have been long dereg'd. Nor did I receive any warning, but hey I did get this right before I got banned

<niknight> don't play this game, you won't like the result

Now if that isn't a flaunting of power, I sure as hell don't know what is.
