Lynolf on 2009-08-19 18:26 EST City of Brass and Petrified Field produce mana, you know... :/ by Eldariel on 2009-08-19 18:30 EST Lies! Filthy lies! City of Brass only deals damage to you when you tap it and Petrified Field only returns Bazaars to hand! by gor187 on 2009-08-19 18:33 EST ykpon wouldnt be second if he didnt draw 4 wastelands and a strip mine all at once shakes head nice top deck though by Kytep on 2009-08-19 19:14 EST I have to admit - I'm confused. What's the purpose of the Petrified Fields? Wouldn't you want to either run Gemstones in that slot, or just go the opposite direction and run no mana-producers at all? Running only 4 colored sources - even with only 4 MD spells which require mana - yet 2 colorless sources that don't seem to do anything seems a bit strange.
by Almi on 2009-08-19 19:56 EST Easy. You dont need to play anything from ur hand, just throw all ur deck to the grave and play from there.
by Delicious on 2009-08-19 22:55 EST i wish i understood vintage more lol
by Eldariel on 2009-08-20 00:16 EST 1st deck is VERY simple: The maindeck is built so that you use Serum Powder and mulligans to find a Bazaar of Baghdad. Then you keep, use Bazaar + NarcoBridge + Ichorid + Dread Return + Cabal Therapy to mill your deck turn 2-3 and win. Petrified Field is there in case your Bazaar gets Wastelanded and the rest of the non-Dredge cards (Chalice, Unmask, Leyline) are meant to disrupt your opponent long enough for you to win.
by Kytep on 2009-08-20 00:19 EST I only count 7 no-mana ways to chuck a card without dredge (Unmask and Bazaar), and 4 ways which also require a City of Brass in play (Cabal Therapy). So, does the No-Mana Ichorid deck usually want to draw first, so they can chuck a card during their first discard phase if they need to? Or does it rely on the aforementioned 7 (up to 11) cards and Serum Powder/aggressive mulligans to get one in the opening hand? by Malakai97 on 2009-08-20 00:26 EST With Serum Powder you have something like a 93% chance of getting a Bazaar and a card with dredge in your opening hand. by Eldariel on 2009-08-20 01:02 EST Kytep: You mulligan/Serum until you have a Bazaar in hand. End of story. You always want to go first because many of your hatecards (Chalice & Unmask in particular) are much better on the play. And Bazaar is literally the deck's only engine.
by styx^ on 2009-08-20 03:51 EST But shouldn't it be Gemstone Caverns or do i see that wrong? :o by Duodax on 2009-08-20 04:01 EST Caverns steal you a card in hand which you need for Bazaar. by Kytep on 2009-08-20 09:52 EST Thanks for the explanations, Almi, Eldariel, and Malaki97. I think it's a VERY cool concept. Being able to win (and quickly at that) without casting a spell and with only one land in play? How cool is that?! by Eldariel on 2009-08-20 10:50 EST @Styx: The sideboard lands need to be topdeckable; they're what enables him to get rid of opponent's hatecards in the first place and one might need to dig for 'em with Bazaar (and that's the deck's Achilles' Heel; there are only so many mana sources for actually playing the anti-hate). by ssilver on 2009-08-20 15:18 EST I got a first turn Yixlid jailor, and he dug for a turn with chain of vapour, vapoured it eot, and went off third turn I believe. The deck is very powerful and very consistent, the ability to dig dig dig until you get your anti-hate cards is very useful. by dv8r on 2009-08-20 17:45 EST I DO play vintage, but I still have no idea what eon hub is against... is oath still playable? by IberianWolf on 2009-08-20 18:16 EST stax, oath, you can use masticore without having to discard with it, ichorid doesn't trigger, etc, I guess. just stating some possibilities by ykpon on 2009-08-20 19:04 EST dv8r, i usually DO NOT play vintage, so my side is a bit random, sorry :3 by Lewmizzle on 2009-09-21 13:12 EST sorry im a noob & i know this thread is old but i dont understand why city of brass is played over gemstone mine. also why is the pyrite spellbomb in sb? |
