The Masterpiece is my favorite deck of all time

by AkYo on 2008-06-10 20:49 MDT

omfg so broken :}

by Conkisstador on 2008-06-10 22:12 MDT

rd 1 v dredge - close match but i was very lazy and distracted. his only card in hand was a troll and he had one land... so i jsut fetched crypt and popped. go figure he topdecks breakthrough. matchup should have been fairly easy.
rd 23 v goblin burn - this deck must be on the internet somewhere because it was almost card-for-card with mogg flunkies as the main beater. not conventional Gobbos. anyone know where it came from? i heard a rumor about it before draft started (when i built the deck) so decided to sideboard blue EB and it was an allstar.
rd 56 v burn. 5 had goyf.

the deck is really good. resilient thru mulligans... instant-win options... lockdown options... certainly powerful.

very nice deck conkisstador, more of a combo deck than my version which is probably right. do really need all 5 colours for explosives?

by Conkisstador on 2008-06-11 00:54 MDT

bluff factors. probably unneccesary on autopilot m-l opponents but good versus the pro. extra lands bluffs removal spells and better creatures and suggests a conventional control build that wouldnt have room for combo.
surprise!

by gypsy on 2008-06-11 02:19 MDT

why not play 1 pithing needle?

by navajita on 2008-06-11 06:03 MDT

todos los tontos tienen suerte

by Eldariel on 2008-06-11 06:09 MDT

Painter's Grind winning...? And Burn second. Well, at least Burn didn't win.

by georgjorge on 2008-06-11 07:07 MDT

So how did you win against all those burn decks, seeing as your combo is reliant on a 1/2 creature ? I mean, it doesn't look like you have more counters than they have burn...so did you win all those games on the back of Top + CBalance ?

Also, are the Dazes and Counterspells really better than REBs main (in a meta not consisting only of burn *sigh...still not sure how they got through all those CBalances*) ? Daze seems not so good in a deck that can't win fast, and Counterspell is expensive, while REB can both force through the combo and protect it from removal.

by kfcman on 2008-06-11 09:02 MDT

georgjorge:
its a 1/3 for starters, and of course Top + Balance would've won him the game. But against burn you just have stone in play and can start shootin at red because those 2 decks have a total of 43 non red cards between them or just put painter down with stone in play and mill their deck in response to burn spells? at that point they'd need to waste multiple burn spells and you would only need a counterspell or two to win.

He has the blue blast in the board, so the burn spells on his servant become much less of a problem.

by CalebD on 2008-06-11 09:02 MDT

georgejorge, for one it's a 1/3. Meaning the second place deck has 8 one-card instant speed answers to it, 12 if you count fireblast. The third place doesn't even have that many.

With that in mind, 4 fow, 4 Cbalance, 2 Counterspell, 2 Spell snare, and 3 daze should be more than enough. He could win with a toothpick once counterbalance lock is established, if he does it quick enough.

Post sb he has 4 BEB and 4 goyfs, which are probably better win conditions vs. burn.

by CyrusKiller on 2008-06-11 09:24 MDT

I won game one it was logical no counterbalance on his side and 2nd and 3rd game tarmogoyf win him those game.

=> MTG.fr goes on top :d

by kby on 2008-06-11 10:15 MDT

yeah... face'd you round 1...

g2 i won on the fact i dredged my whole deck VERY fast... get sage into play, sac it more tokens, draw more..etc..etc..etc..
took forever tho... dredge dredge dredge..continue...dredge dredge.. lol

but no doubt you played everything right... kind of amazed on how good the brainstorms/ponders were w/ the cb out, you didn't even see what was happening and you got em.

ps...sucks after g1 w/ multiple crypts...

--
dont recommend the 1st place deck to anyone w/o alot of practice and skill

---
and how does it beat burn besides counter-balance?? burn painter in response to stone... almost played burn too... but dredge was faster

by gypsy on 2008-06-11 11:08 MDT

you win because burn sucks, and you have lots of counters if they burn painter, and if u burn painter u just lost time and a burn spell not pointed to the dome

by cheesypirate on 2008-06-11 11:24 MDT

why doesn't burn play gaea's blessing in the board?

by warwizard87 on 2008-06-11 11:57 MDT

why don't the burn decks play shusher side???? o_O
counter balance is almost as common as fow nowadays

by gypsy on 2008-06-11 12:05 MDT

shusher slows burn down so much

by ManaLeak on 2008-06-11 14:50 MDT

painters of the world unite we have blue worlds to paint!

by onecleanceli on 2008-06-11 17:36 MDT

shusher may slow it down a tiny bit but at the same time, it could possibly make sure you kill painter and save you just enough time to finish them off

by trueeevil on 2008-06-11 18:28 MDT

Why can't people beat burn.

by SteveMan on 2008-06-11 21:37 MDT

...HE WON BECAUSE OF TARMOGOYF.
